FAQ

What are your hours for tours? We are open for self-guided tours Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10AM-4PM. Tuesdays are open for self-guided tours (55+) and Old Timer's Day only. Saturdays are open to guided tours with our tour guide from 12-5PM. Tours can take between 1-2 hours. Tours with the staff historian are available for booking on our bookings page.
How much does it cost to visit the museum? Visiting the museum during regularly scheduled days is always FREE.
Is it haunted? Maybe! Visiting the museum you will find plaques with ghosts located in specific areas. These were placed where unexplained events occurred. Ask our staff about their own spooky stories and our Spirits of the Walton House tours.
Can my paranormal team investigate the museum? Yes, but there are fees associated with renting the museum for investigations. Unless you are listed as a trusted team with the museum, you must have museum staff present with you at all times and leave an additional $100 security deposit, in addition to all fees for your investigation. No live videos are allowed.
Do you really welcome bikers? YES, we ride motorcycles, too. We allow bikers to use our parking lot, take water from the cooler on the porch, use the picnic tables, and rest in the parking areas, even when we are closed. We ask everyone clean up after themselves using provided trash cans.
May I bring my children or grandchildren for Old Timer's Day? No. Old Timer's Days are reserved for people aged 50+ to enjoy the museum without children.
How much is Homeschool day? Homeschool days are completely FREE and take place during the school year on the third Friday of every month, except in December. If there is a special homeschool event, such as butter churning or historic crafting, tickets are sold.
Can you take donations? Yes, we take cash donations, CashApp donations, and tips for our tour guide but they are not tax deductible.
What forms of payment do you accept in the gift shop? We accept Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AMEX, and ApplePay.
Is your museum good for kids? We are not a "don't touch" museum. While our museum is reading intensive, we do have things that kids can touch and handle for the experience to be more interactive. For a more kid friendly experience, we recommend coming on a Saturday when our tour guide is available. Self guided tours are not as kid-friendly. Children must be supervised at all times.
Are there age restrictions for spirit tours? Spirit tours may have sensitive material and the recommended age is 16+.
Can I ghost hunt on my self guided tour? Yes and no. We do have ghost equipment we can let you use on certain days, subject to availability and with a cash deposit. We do not allow Ouiji boards in the museum at any time. Guided tours (on Saturdays) do not allow ghost hunting on the tour.
Do you allow events or photography? We only allow charity events at the museum. We do not allow weddings at the Martin Walton House, due to the sensitive history associated with the home and out of respect for those that lived and died here. We do allow photographers to take pictures at the home and grounds for a fee.
Is your museum handicapped accessible? The main level is wheelchair accessible. We have a van accessible parking space and a ramp. Inside the home, we have ramps to get in the main level. Due to the age of the home, this is the only accessible area. However, we have a virtual tour for mobility limited guests. People with limited mobility will only be able to reach the main floor, where a majority of our exhibits are, including the Martin Walton office. Guests may request the QR code for the virtual tour if they are unable to use the stairs.
